The hygrometer's coil element permits direct access to humidity, providing rapid response time for an accurate reading. Zippo Commemorates 50-Year Mystery
In the late 1940s, Zippo founder George G. Blaisdell purchased a 1947 black Chrysler Saratoga, which he transformed into the famed Zippo Car. Blaisdell had two enormous lighters (duplicates of Zippos) with glowing red neon flames built into the car's chassis, and the word Zippo emblazoned on the grill. The car was fitted with a radio, tape recorder, and PA system, all cutting-edge technology at the time. During the late 40s and early 50s, the car appeared in major parades, and at expos and fairs in all 48 states. The car was eventually brought in to a dealership for repairs in the early 50s and forgotten about for years. When Blaisdell went to locate the car in the early 1970s, he found the dealership had vanished without a trace, along with the car. Now, nearly 50 years later, Zippo presents the 1998 Limited Edition Collectible of the Year in honor of the Zippo Car and its mysterious disappearance. The set includes a brushed chrome lighter featuring a three-dimensional, pewter emblem of the car and a replica of the original Bradford, Pennsylvania, Zippo license plate on the lid, accompanied by a cast pewter Zippo license plate key ring. F.G.T. to Distribute Humi-Pouch
Tampa-based F.G.T. Enterprises will now be distributing the Humi-Pouch line of products. Humi-Pouch, developed by Altura Distribution, is a tobacco shipping and storage bag that provides an inexpensive way to keep cigars fresh and humidified. This reclosable, portable pouch uses natural humidification technology and innovative flexible packaging and is designed to preserve cigars up to 60 days. They are available in two-, five-, and 25-cigar pouches. According to Bruce Gonzales, vice president and director of sales for Altura, the alliance with F.G.T. will help make Humi-Pouch a household name with tobacconists. F.G.T.
