TOBACCO PRODUCTS AND INDUSTRY PROMOTIONS
New Box-Pressed Gurkha Regent Series Launched by Beach Cigar Group
After five years in the making, Beach Cigar Group has announced the introduction of the Gurkha Regent premium cigar line from K. Hansotia & Co. The 100% long-leaf filler cigar is hand made in Honduras.
"Our Regent cigar offers all cigar lovers the same craftsmanship that produces the world's most expensive production cigar, His Majesty's Reserve," says Kaizad Hansotia, the company's president. "Though popularly priced, it is still a true connoisseur's cigar, with its full-bodied, opulent flavor and aroma."
Gurkha Regent is a medium to full-bodied box-pressed cigar, made with Dominican Piloto and Ligero leaves for rich, earthy flavors; a spicy Indonesian binder; and a silky Havana 2000 wrapper and choice filler tobaccos, all fully aged for smoothness. It is available in Robusto, Churchill, Toro, and Torpedo. The striking presentation befits a luxury cigar, with a brass plaque adorning the red mahogany box of 20 cigars. Two wooden lift-out trays hold 10 cigars, and each cigar rests in its own compartment. Suggested retail for the Gurkha Regent is $220 per box.

Cantero Cigars for Perdomo Tour Participants
Tabacalera Perdomo S.A. has launched Cantero, a new limited-distribution cigar brand manufactured exclusively for tobacconists who participated in the company's 2003 Perdomo Factory Tour.
The Cantero brand celebrates a series of factory tours recently conducted by Tabacalera Perdomo where tobacconists were able to experience the entire scope of the Nicaraguan manufacturer's premium cigar production. Each tour group spent three days observing the systematic processes Tabacalera Perdomo employs at its Nicaraguan plantations, curing facilities, and cigar production and packaging factory in Esteli.
Cantero is a Nicaraguan puro, comprised of a blend of filler tobaccos grown in Esteli. The binder leaf is selected from fine tobaccos grown in the Condega and Ocotal regions; and the shade-grown wrappers, available in either caramel-colored Cuban Café or ebony-hued Maduro versions, are hand selected from crops grown on plantations in the Jalapa Valley. Cantero offers a "distinctive combination of bold, full-bodied complexity blended with a smooth and spicy finish," according to the manufacturer.
Five different sizes are offered, packaged in mazos (Cuban factory-style bundles) of 25: Robusto (4 1/2 x 52); Toro (6 x 50); Perfecto (5 3/4 x 54); Churchill (6 7/8 x 48) and Torpedo (6 x 54). Single stick retail prices range from $3.50 to $4.90.
Retailers are supplied with personalized, laser engraved cigar trays made of Spanish cedar to display Cantero.

Tatiana Adds Evolution Countertop Display
Miami Cigar & Company has created the new Evolution countertop display for the company's popular line of Tatiana flavored premium cigars, "To take it further into the next generation of point-of-purchase sales and promotion," says company marketing director Daniel Miranda. "We wanted our customers to display as many of the nine flavors as possible, and we insisted on a look that projected the quality inherent in our 100% top-quality Dominican tobacco, handmade Tatiana Miniatures."
The graphics of Tatiana's product packaging is highly visible through the display, and a built-in humidification element ensures fresh cigars. The unit has a very small 12 1/4-inch footprint, and overall height is about 30 inches.
Miami Cigar sells Tatiana Miniatures individually and in European-style, hinged lid tins of 10 cigars. To effectively showcase both formats, the Evolution displays the cigars on a rotating base, within a clear acrylic vertical octagonal shell. The top two rotating trays hold 30 tins in six bins. The two lower rotating trays hold 300 loose Miniatures in neat array, or 600 cigars total.
Retailers can mix tins with different flavored Miniatures in each slot. Miami Cigar is offering the Evolution free to retailers who purchase enough Tatianas to fill it.

New Limited Domestic Distribution for El Credito International Cigars
El Credito International cigars, developed by Ernesto Perez-Carillo for international markets, now have limited retail distribution in the United States. In addition, consumers are also able to purchase the cigars in person at the El Credito factory in the Little Havana district of Miami, Fla.
A medium- to full-bodied smoke with a spectrum of complex, rich flavors, El Credito International is available in either Natural, featuring an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper, or Maduro, which is finished in a Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper. The cigars, which are handmade in the Dominican Republic, are offered in seven frontmarks and retail at $4.00 to $6.50 per cigar, handsomely packaged in a lacquered box.
"I originally created El Credito International cigars to provide the export market with a brand much like my La Gloria Cubana brand - a top seller in the U.S." explains cigar master Ernesto Perez-Carillo. "It's ironic that El Credito International cigars have now come full circle, enjoying a great deal of success internationally without having been available to American consumers."
While the blend for El Credito International is based on Perez-Carillo's La Gloria Cubana blend, the frontmarks in the collection have been specifically developed for international markets as they represent the most popular sizes among consumers overseas. American consumers can now enjoy these internationally inspired sizes which influence the characteristics of the cigar, thus providing the connoisseur with a unique smoking experience. El Credito is a subsidiary of General Cigar Co.
