MERCHANDISE AND NEWS FROM THE PIPE WORLD
Indianhead Adds New Bent Shapes
to European Value Pipe Line
Indianhead has introduced six new bent
shapes to its line of European-crafted
value pipes, bringing the total of shapes
available to 16.
“We introduced the original nine
shapes of these ‘board pipes’ at RTDA
2003, after a successful marketing program,”
says Bill Bock, president of Indianhead.
“Their acceptance has exceeded
expectations. Retailers report brisk
sales, and have asked for more shapes.
So, we have introduced these latest
models, all popular with serious pipe
smokers.”
The original offering included bents,
half-bents, and straights, in smooth and
rustic finishes, all with vulcanite stems.
The new shapes are all bents, with Danish-
style vulcanite stems. “All carry a silver
band on the stem,” says Bock,
“which adds a touch of luxury that is rare
on pipes at this price point.”
Like the previous introduction, all
are crafted from aged briar. The new
shapes are available in a varnished
warm mahogany shade or mediumbrown
matte.
Wholesale cost for the pipes is $126
per dozen ($10.50 each); they are sold a
dozen to a carton.

Pipe Club Gourmet Pipe Tobaccos
When members of one of Europe’s oldest and most selective
pipe clubs wanted several exclusive aromatic blends that
were not otherwise available in the commercial market,
they set out to create their own. After much testing, five
blends were developed exclusively for this connoisseur
group, produced in small, hand-blended batches. Recently
this “invitation only” pipe club agreed to share its
private tobacco pleasures with the public.
An XYZ Direct exclusive, these tobaccos are the epitome
of the blender’s art. The quality of the base and condiment leaf
is complemented by the unusually adventurous combinations
of top flavorings. Pipe Club is packed in brightly designed,
square collector tins, and consists of five varieties:
No. 1: Virginia, Burley, Oriental, Cavendish, and double
fermented fire-cured Kentucky are blended then long matured
with a top flavoring of natural plum, vanilla, and tonka essence (no coumarin).
Medium strength with full bouquet.
No. 2: Kentucky, Virginia, two types of Cavendish, and
spun cut disks of Virginia form the base and are flavored with
caramel, honey, plum, and vanilla. Mild taste, delicious
aroma.
No. 3: Hard pressed for more than a month, then broken
(ready rubbed), this premium Virginia cake has the
flavors baked in, not added. Cognac, orange, and honey
subtly transform the tobacco into a gourmet experience.
Mild, yet flavorful.
No. 4: A balanced blend of evenly cut Virginia, Burley,
Cavendish, and Oriental with a distinct flavor that combines
malt whiskey, ginger, cherry, and vanilla. Mild, delightful
aroma.
No. 5: Matured natural Virginia, Georgia Burley, Old Belt,
and special black Cavendish in a classic aromatic blend,
uniquely flavored with pure vanilla and coriander.
